What’s on my Design Wall, September 26, 2011

Posted By on September 25, 2011

Many of you have asked me what I accomplished when I took my DESIGN WALL from last week on the road to be accomplished on retreat!  I had quite a few projects and as you can see – my car was FULL when I headed for Williamsburg last Thursday for the Colonial Piecemakers Quilt Guild Retreat!  Yes, REALLY, all this for a Thursday through Sunday retreat!

My Design Wall is packed!

Here is what I did!

It took the entire first day (until midnight Thursday night – but who is keeping track ) to get my SPIDERWEB QUILT TOP together!  I love this quilt but I have officially declared that any future foundation piecing will be done on muslin, tear away fusible or used dryer sheets.  I think that the floor under my chair was the most “UNTIDY” in the entire retreat room.  I am sure that the paper got lots of LINT in my sewing machine too!  :):)

My Bonnie Hunter Spiderweb Quilt top is together

And much to my JOY, my second Roll Roll Cotton Boll Quilt top is now complete!  I got the borders on!  I love this quilt and think it is one of Bonnie Hunter’s BEST EVER MYSTERY QUILTS.  Now that I am finished, making those 600 HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES TIMES TWO wasn’t so bad!  🙂

My grandangel, Sarah, sent her bear along with me to add to my DESIGN WALL.  This little bear got a new eye!  Ruby (our dog) loves to remove the eyes from stuffed animals.  🙂

I got the binding on my HUGS AND KISSES QUILT – this is a Dorothy Young Design  for her Christmas 2010 Mystery.  This was on a previous design wall – but it didn’t get accomplished until now!  🙂  COLOR ME HAPPY!

Hugs and Kisses is completed

My friend Catherine tea-dyed white flannel and taught some of us to make a cute little PEAR – it can be a pincushion or just a CUTE LITTLE PEAR!

Also not on my ORIGINAL DESIGN WALL are six placemats that just happened to end up on my DESIGN WALL *have you ever had that happen? I spent one entire day and part of another putting these placemats together – and I have decided that sewing on buttons will not be on any DESIGN WALLS of mine for quite awhile!  LOL

Six PLACEMATS ready for FALL!

I also got my HIDDEN PINWHEELS QUILT completed – YES – two quilts bound!

The binding is on HIDDEN PINWHEELS!

And I did work on my HEXAGONS for my Scrappy Grandmother’s Flower Garden Quilt – and that is what is on my DESIGN WALL FOR THIS WEEK TOO because 33 of my hexagons ended up on my placemats – now whose idea was that!!

Lots of Hexagons

CPQG Retreat – Candid Happenings – September, 2011

I don’t know when I have had so much fun.  The Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild Retreat was the best ever.  I don’t know when I have laughed so hard – eaten so much GOOD FOOD – witnessed such inspiring creativity – and got so much done too!

Lorraine did a great job of planning this retreat – it really was fantastic.

Kathy Shy’s baby quilt became a highlight of the retreat – it is quite lovely!  Many of us want to make one now!!!

I hope you enjoy some of the CANDID photos of our fun!

One of my FAVORITE parts of our Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild Retreats is the SHOW AND TELL on Saturday night.  Here are just SOME of the wonderful things that were created and shared!!!  (Some of my photos were TOO BLURRY to share and some were STILL A SECRET – but here are a few that made it to my blog.)

Are these just beautiful?

A BIRTHDAY SURPRISE

When I woke up EARLY Saturday and looked out the window, there was a GARDEN ANGEL leaving me a birthday surprise!!!

The area around my mailbox was being landscaped……with a PUMPKIN TOO!  Isn’t this a great surprise??????

And now the neighbors are wanting a GARDEN ANGEL too!

My BEAUTIFUL MAILBOX GARDEN

And the garden even has DAISIES!!!!

THANK YOU TO MY GARDEN ANGEL, Catherine.  I just love my garden and will enjoy it EVERY DAY!!!!!

Daisies and a Critter Party

Posted By on September 21, 2011

I admire my mailbox garden every morning (my friend Catherine really gave me the gift that keeps on giving.)  Looking at my daisies just starts my day with a smile…..LOOK AT ALL OF THESE BUDS AND BLOOMS.  I love daisies and even named one of my cars DAISY!

Daisies

Here is DAISY!  I loved this car and still miss her to this day.

Daisy in the Snow

My favorite part of my DAISY car was the sunroof.  When it rained, the grandangels and I opened the sunroof and got wet while singing “SINGING IN THE RAIN!”

She had a wonderful sunroof and grandangels could stick their heads out to catch raindrops on their tongues

I also have a cat named DAISY MAE!

OK – now that we have established the fact that I like Daisies……I also love fall  – the leaves, the cool weather, the pumpkins.

And speaking of pumpkins, some critters have been having a party.  LOOK at the pumpkin that is in my mailbox garden.  DO YOU RECOGNIZE THESE TEETHMARKS?  Squirrels?  Turtles?  Deer?  I would really like to know – the teeth mark have made a rather interesting design statement!

Who has been eating my pumpkin?
