In 2007 I finished 17 quilts and I finished 19 quilts in 2008 . In 2009 I must have been completely crazy – it appears I made 34 quilts in 2009.

I slowed down a little and ONLY made 27 in 2010 and in 2011 I also made 27 quilts and many other projects!

In 2012 I made 18 quilts; however  in both 2013  and 2014 I only made 4 quilts each year.  I spent a lot of time in Kansas City with my daddy during his last year and the following year I was just too sad to do much sewing.

 

SAO QUILTS COMPLETED in 2013

#1     CURVED LOG CABIN (72 x 83)  was a friend of Augusta Cole’s pattern and the quilt was quilted by Karen Murray.

 

 

#2         CAROLINA CROSSROADS II   was the second of Bonnie K Hunter’s very first Quiltville Mystery Quilts (92 x 105).  I had to make a second one in a larger size.  I have always thought that this was my favorite mystery!  It was quilted by Karen Murray

 

#3     CHRISTMAS MYSTERY 2011 was designed by Dorothy Young – and she also named this Jeanne’s Diamonds.  I6 measures 62 x 62 and was quilted by Sara Parrish.  This was gifted to my nephew and his wife, Jordan and Lindsay Owens, as a wedding gift.

 

#4     Nanna’s Surprise was  Quilter’s Club of America Mystery (56 X 60) quilted by Sara Parrish.  My daughter saw the photo that I posted after finishing it at Augusta Cole’s retreat.  She  claimed it and of course I said yes!

SAO QUILTS MADE IN 2011

#1     GRANDMOTHER’S FLOWER GARDEN  (64 x 74).  I learned to do English Paper Piecing from Claudette Adams and a revised version later by Sheddy Reese.  This was going to be for my mother, but she died before I got it finished….so I have this quilt – quilted by Sara Parrish.

 

#2     NEW YEARS EVE MYSTERY 2010 FABRICAHOLICS – designed by Ann Smith  (48 x 48) and quilted by Val at A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT.

 

#3     PINK MILKY WAY designed by Augusta Cole (Cutting Bee)  (68 x 81) and quilted by Val at A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT.  Grandangel Leanna Epps has this quilt on her bed in Midlothian, VA

 

 

#4     CHRISTMAS FAIRY was made in a class taught by my friend Catherine Etter.  I cannot remember who I gave this too……so this is a mystery Christmas Fairy!  She has lots of embellishment including buttons and Austrian crystals.

 

 

 

 

#5     BRITTANY’S SUMMER JEWELS (65 x 81) was designed by Augusta Cole (Cutting Bee) and was a gift when Grandangel Brittany graduated from high school in Valencia, CA.  She had it with her throughout her college years in New York.  She graduated from Cornell in 2016.  Val at A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT did the quilting.

 

#6     SS KALIEDOSCOPE (50 x 47) was quilted by Karen Murray and was gifted as a donated to Japan after the  tsunami in 2011.

 

#7     Scrappy Log Cabin (50 1/2 x 64 1/2) was quilted by Karen Murray and donated to Japan after the tsunami.

 

 

#8     PASTEL HEARTSTRINGS (35 x 45) quilted by Karen Murray and donated to the ICU in Williamsburg, VA

 

 

#9  Connect the Dots (65 1/2 x 84) was designed by Judy Laquidara and quilted by Sara Parrish.  It does not have a forever home yet.

 

 

 

 

#10 ROLL ROLL COTTON BOLL was a Bonnie K Hunter Quiltville Mystery (84 x 100).  It was quilted by Sarah Parrish and gifted to Vincent Johnson who LOVES my quilts and doesn’t want to sleep with any other kind of blanket or comforter – only quilts!

 

 

#11       HAPPY SPOOLS (47 1/2 x 59) designed by Eleanor Burns and quilted by Karen Murray.    It does not have a forever home yet.

 

#12  TWICE AS NICE (47 x 60) designed by eleanor Burns and quilted by Karen Murray.  It does not have a forever home yet.

#13     Pinwheels and Posies – a mystery quilt from Powhatan Quilters (56 1/2 z 62 1/2)  and was quilted by Karen Murray.  This was donated (2018)  to the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas, and distributed by my sister-in-law, Crystal Owens. 

 

#14     STRIPPY #3 was Designed by Eleanor Burns and quilted by Karen Murray (42  x  51 1/2)  It does not have a forever home yet.

 

#15       CADEN’S GREEN BAY PACKERS QUILT – made from the Summer Jewels pattern given to us by Augusta Cole at her Cutting Bee (67 x 83.5″).  This was for Grandangel Caden Stark’s high school graduation – and this was his favorite football team.  Quilted by Karen Murray!

Quilts #16 through 22 were made for the ALZHEIMER’S ART INITIATIVE as donation for Alzheimer’s research – through the Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild.

#16     PURRFECT PEACE

I loved this one so much that my brother, Dan Albertson, and his wife Glenda Albertson, bid on this quilt and gave it back to me as a gift.

#23     MARJORIE’S PUMPKIN PATCH was a two-color crayon challenge at the Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild, in Williamsburg, VA.    I blindly picked orange and white (and was not overly thrilled because orange was my least favorite color – however, it WAS my mother, Marjorie Albertson’s favorite color) so I made the quilt in honor of her.

 

 

#24     CHRISTMAS MYSTERY 2010 “Hugs and Kisses”  (49 x 49) was designed by Dorothy Young and quilted by Sara Parrish.

 

#25     HIDDEN PINWHEELS is another pattern from Augusta Cole’s Cutting Bee and was quilted by Sara Parrish.  This was a high school graduation present for Grandangel Collin Stark and this quilt lives in California!

 

 

 

#26     SAO’S ROAD TO BROWNWOOD, TEXAS was designed by Judy Laquidara (81.5 x 91.5″) and quilted by Sara Parrish.  This was a gift to Barbara Zimmerman and this quilt lives in Georgia!

 

#27      JB TAKES A WIFE is a pattern designed by Bonnie K Hunter called Jared Takes a wife – she made this for her pastor when he married.  It is 72.5 x 83 and was quilted by Sara Parrish.  I gave this to my brother, Jim Albertson, after he had bypass surgery.  Jim and my daddy were both named JAMES BLAINE ALBERTSON (J.B.) and pictured here is my brother Jim with Daddy and me.  This is the one memory quilt that my daddy got to see.

 

I was VERY BUSY in 2011 and so I decided to mention just a few other projects that I completed.  So here goes.

#1       THE SPANGLE TREE was my January Vicki Welsh Color Palette Challenge as well as my Free Motion Quilting Challenge.   We took an image and used colors from it to create something quilted.    I actually pieced AND quilted this one with leaves.

#2     ANGEL SNOWMAN (30.5 x 24.5) was my February Free Motion Quilting Challenge – I quilted this one with feathers (and in my opinion I ruined it!)  

#3  ROLL ROLL COTTON BOLL JR (was one of TWO of Bonnie K Hunter’s Quiltville Mystery quilt for 2010 (86 x  101).  It was quilted by Val at A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT and I gifted this to my cousin Janie Lynn Albertson Gray for her 40th Wedding Anniversary.

 

#4     Spiderweb is a Bonnie K Hunter Design (53 1/4 x 64″) and was quilted by Karen Murray.

 

 

#5     PATRIOTIC DANDELION PARADE is a Judy Laquidara Design that was quilted by Val at A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT.  I gifted it to Grandangel William Johnson for his high school graduation.

 

#6     ORCA BAY II is one of TWO of Bonnie K Hunter’s 2011 Quiltville Mystery quilts (76 x 86) that I made and it was quilted by Val at A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT.  Tonto, the cat, is pictured with this quilt.

 

 

#7   ANGEL’S WATCHING OVER US is my February Vicki Welsh Color Challenge and my Feathers Free Motion Quilting Challenge.  I pieced and quilted this one.

 

#8     HOPSCOTCH BUTTERSCOTCH is a Bonnie K Hunter Design (64 1/4 x 72″) and was quilted by Sara Parrish.  This was gifted to my cousin, Nancy Holmes after she lost her home and most of her belongings in the Oklahoma hurricane and flood.  This quilt lives with Nancy in Oklahoma.

 

 

 

#9     TWISTS AND LOOPS THROUGH THE CIRCLE OF LIFE is my March Vicki Welsh Color Challenge and my Free Motion Quilting challenge – twists and loops.  I pieced and quilted this one.  I think this was my favorite Color Challenge Quilt – I made it with hexies!

 

 

#10  ORCA BAY I is one of TWO  Bonnie K Hunter 2011 Quiltville Mystery quilts that I made (84 x 96) and it was quilted by Val at A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT.

#11      SUNSET OVER THE SEA  was my April Vicki Welsh Color Challenge (the inspiration photo was a moldy pie submitted by Judy Laquidara) and my Free Motion Challenge – a flower stencil.  This one was inspired by Grandangel Sarah Epps.  I pieced AND quilted this one and I liked this design too – the top photo is upside down.

 

#12     THE YUM YUM TREE was my May Vicki Welsh Color Challenge and Free Motion Challenge for May (this is the last color challenge that I did. It was fun using different colors but I didn’t enjoy the free motion quilting at all.  I guess I just wanted to move on to other things.)   This one was also inspired by Grandangel Sarah Epps.

 

 

#13  JANNAE’S ART QUILT (61 x 78) is precious.  Grandangel Jannae did most of these drawings when she was 5 and 6 years old.   She used crayon on cloth and we ironed the color into the fabric.  It was challenging because not all of her masterpieces were the same size.  I think it turned out great!

 

#14   Vintage Halloween Quilt was a panel that I used to practice my hand quilting.

 

#15     Grandma Reiter’s Colorado Happy Hippos was a Colonial Piecemaker’s CHILDHOOD MEMORY Challenge Quilt (36 x 36)  It was quilted by Sara Parrish.  My grandmother knew that I loved hippos so she created these hippos for me to use.   Eleanor Reiter, designed and cut out all of the fabric hippos from her vintage stash.  The sleeve for this quilt is made from the sleeves of my mother, Marjorie Albertson’s blouse.  (KAREN DUMONT used these hippos and published the pattern.)

 

#16        FIELD OF FLOWERS was  Richmond Modern Quilt Guild Cotton Couture Challenge.  It was quilted by Sara Parrish.

 

#17     WORMS AND JELLY ROLLS –  a Quilter’s Club of America Mystery (56 x 69 1/2″) quilted by Sara Parrish.  This was donated  to the Hospice in Williamsburg, VA in honor of Jay.

 

#18  SUMMER MYSTERY Fabricaholics  (60 x 60) quilted by Sara Parrish.

In 2007 I finished 17 quilts. In 2008 I finished 19 quilts. In 2009 I must have been completely crazy – it appears I made 34 quilts in 2009. So, did I slow down in 2010 – well, maybe a little bit – I made 27! Here we go with the photos!

#1      FLOWERS OF HOPE (48″ x 62″) was made and quilted by me for the victims of the tsunami in Japan.  As it turned out, I didn’t have confidence in my ability to quilt so I was embarrassed to give it away – so I picked another quilt to donate.  I kept this one.  Flowers of Hope is now a baby quilt for Puppy Atlas – born Dec. 15, 2017!

 

#2       MAIN STREET HOUSES (81″ x 96″) was a block swap with four friends.  My daughter, Jan Stark, has this quilt and it lives in Corona Del Mar, CA.

#3     STAR STRUCK (65 1/2″ x 65 1/2″) is a Bonnie K. Hunter Design that I started in a class with Bonnie in Williamsburg, VA with the CPQG.  It was a wedding gift to my nephew, Dustin,  and Amy Albertson (and given that Dustin is in the Coast Guard, this quilt has had multiple homes!)

#4     RAISING CANE  (50″ x 51″)  is a Dorothy Young design for A Pocket Full of  Mysteries that I donated to the babies in ICU.

#5      OSCAR’S WALL HANGING is a small quilt (28 1/2″ x 28 1/2″) that I made for Kerry Albertson for her nephew, Oscar’s 2nd Birthday!

#6      BLAKE’S MILKY WAY (69″ x 82″) is made from Augusta Coles’ Cutting Bee workshop and was given to my Grandangel Blake as a High School Graduation gift.

#7  BABY BOY COOK RAG QUILT (44″ x 54″) was made from cozy flannels for my grand-nephew, Mason Cook, and this quilt lives in Kansas!

 

#8     MODA SELVAGES (76 1/2″‘ x 90″) was  a Quilter’s Corners block of the month project and was given to my Grandamgel Brennan Stark for his high school graduation.

 

#9  BABY GIRL RIBBON WEAVE is a quilt (48″ x 61″) that I donated to the babies in ICU.

 

#10      CAROLINA CHRISTMAS STARS  (61″ x 77″) is a Bonnie Hunter design but I put one of the blocks together to makes this quilt and the OTHER block I made into another quilt that I called Carolina Christmas Poinsettia!  This was quilted by A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT.  It has found a home (with the matching pillow) with Grandangel Leanna Epps, Christmas 2016.

 

#11  Here is the CAROLINA CHRISTMAS POINSETTIA (the other block in Bonnie K. Hunter’s Carolina Christmas quilt.)  Pictured below is my dog Pepper and cat Daisy May HELPING.  This was quilted by A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT.  Also this quilt has one of my INTERESTING pieced backs.  This quilt has not found a forever home yet.

 

#12  The NEW YEAR’S EVE 2009 MYSTERY quilt (44″ x 49″) was designed by Ann Smith.  I donated it to the babies in ICU.

 

#13     CHICKENS, CHICKS and CHERRIES (43″ x 43″) was a group exchange with quilting friends at Quilter’s Corner.   We each made 5 blocks of the same chicken and mine was the black one who was eating.   It was quilted by Sara Parrish.

#14     AMIMAL HUGS was donated to Downey’s Quilts for Kids Organization.

 

#15     LILA SCOTTY QUILT  (38 1/2″ x 29″)  was made for  and donated to the babies in ICU.

 

#16     ABY’S QUILT was made for my nephew dog.  I hand quilted it because I wanted to learn how to hand quilt and I figured the dog wouldn’t mind if my stitches weren’t perfect.  The quilt lives in Kansas City, MO with Aby and my brother Fred.

 

#17     PEACEFUL HOURS  (73″ x 87  1/2″) is a quilt designed by Michelle Pease and quilted by A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT.  This quilt has not found a forever home yet.

#18     COUNTRY PIECEMAKER’S BLOCK OF THE MONTH QUILT (44″ x 61″) designed by Sandie and Catherine.  It does not have a forever home yet.

 

#19  SUMMER STARS (61″ x 84 1/2″) was the Summer Mystery designed by Ann Smith and quilted by Sara Parrish.  It was a wedding present for Jessica Ward – my great niece and it has a home in Arizona. 

#20     30’s CLUB STARS (64″ x 81″)  was made as a monthly block project of the 30’s Club at Quilter’s Corner.  It was quilted by A Needle Runs Through it.  It does not have a forever home yet.

 

 

#21   THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS (26 x 26) was a Piece and Plenty Challenge – quilted by Sarah Parrish and gifted to my sister-in-law Elaine Albertson in Kansas City, Missouri after it was displayed in the Virginia Quilt Museum September 3 – December 18, 2010.  The snowmen represent my brother Fred, sister-in-law, Elaine and their two sons, Eric and Joey Albertson.

  

 

#22     PUMPKINS GONE WILD is a panel that I hand quilted.  Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I will keep this one to decorate with every year!

 

#23          CONFETTIE (70 x 85 1/2) is designed by Augusta Cole and quilted by Val at A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT.  I gave it to my grandangel, Lacy Stark,  for her graduation from Cal State Berkeley.

 

#24  RIBBON WEAVE (58 x 70) is a design by Augusta Cole (Cutting Bee) and was quilted by Sara Parrish.  It was a donation to the victims of tornado in Joplin, Missouri, that occurred on May 22, 2011.  Pictured below, is Eddie, the recipient of my quilt.

$25       MAD CITY GRANDMAMA (69 1/2 x 86 1/2) is a Bonnie K. Hunter design and was quilted by Val at A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT.  It was gifted to my cousin Nancy’s husband, Robert Holmes,  in memory of her mother, Bea Holt, and other cancer victims, in 2015.

 

 

# 26    BABY GIRL JOYFUL FLOWERS (40 1/2 x 53  1/2) was an ICU Donation and quilted by Sara Parrish.

 

 

#27            SCRAPPY CHICLETS  (60 1/2 x 71 1/2) was quilted by Val at A NEEDLE RUNS THROUGH IT and was gifted to my neighbor and friend, Sallie Kirchhoff for her birthday.

In addition to quilts, I made four bags for my daughter, Christi Johnson Epps and

I helped make several pillowcases for Cancer Patients.
