Show and Tell at Quilt Camp 2012

Posted By on February 21, 2012

I marvel at the talent of quilters.  This year at quilt camp at Tern of the Century in North Carolina, the inspiration abounded!  I am going to share some of the pictures that I took……….ENJOY the show and tell!

I love everything, but I am mentioning just a couple of things!  The little dogs that Jackie and Christy made are adorable – made with 2 1/2″ squares!    Barbara’s little pillowcase dress is ADORABLE and is going to make some little girl mighty happy.

I am mighty happy too because I got FOUR QUILTS BOUND….my Roll Roll Cotton Boll (Bonnie Hunter Design – Quiltville.com), Orca Bay  (another Bonnie Hunter Design), Patriotic Dandelion Parade (designed by Judy Laquidara – Patchworktimes.com and Spiderweb (designed by Bonnie Hunter.)

Augusta – do you like the way your CURVED LOG CABIN TURNED OUT?  You can order this pattern on Augusta’s Website….

Fun and Frivolity at Quilt Camp 2012

Posted By on February 21, 2012

Quilt Camp in North Carolina is a yearly event that we all look forward to – and for good reason.  We get to sew with friends and we get almost five days of serious sewing machine time!   We do way more than sew though – we eat great food, we share sewing tips, we enjoy Baron (or another Great Dane that Christy brings along), we ooh and aah at the dolphins – the ocean – the sunsets, and this year we marveled at the ANGRY SEA during our Sunday night storm.  We also missed those who couldn’t be with us this year!

I like the sign in the kitchen window – and it is TRUE except for what the cameras and the bloggers happen to blab!  🙂  Because I took so many pictures (surprise surprise) I am going to share  in two or three different posts.  This is NUMBER 1.

What happens at the beach.....

We had lots of cameras clicking away for sure!

Serious sewing machine time

sao attempting to Free Motion Quilt on a Featherweight!

Becky constructed a design wall

Ann sewed in the UPPER BALCONY - what a view

Look how happy she is – she can see the ocean!

I think it looks like they are in heaven with all of the twinkling little star lights!

Viewing the quilts down under

It was great fun to stand at the top of the railing and admire the quilts on the floor below!

We shared laughs, sewing tips, and techie stuff too!

We shared TECHIE STUFF too!

Technology has definitely changed the after dinner socializing time!  🙂

Some of us had to resort to UNUSUAL MEANS to be able to read without adequate lighting!

I wish the camera could have captured that flashing head light!!

My roomie took a few side trips (she apparently has a need for LOTS of excitement) – first to buy a new tire since a curb jumped out in front of her and caused a little tire bubble.  Then she took a little trip to the hospital to get rid of a killer headache!  After all of this “RUNNING AROUND” she carried out her annual duty of making popcorn for us…..and not the popcorn that comes in a bag for the microwave!  I can still smell that popcorn!!!

Karen - the life of the party

We got lessons on how to wind a bobbin

It is difficult to see the little NEST of thread that was created here!  But, trust me,  Jackie did some fancy work!

Barbara helped create BOBBIN ARTISTRY too!

Aren’t these yellow chickie aprons adorable?  I don’t own an apron, but this year I am inspired and just might have to make one!

The BEACH CHICKS dressed in their fancy smocked aprons cooked up a fancy brunch - and some of us got the WEAR PINK MEMO!

Is this a happy camper or what!?

The dolphins put on great shows for us…….I will put ocean pictures in a separate post……and I took lots of pictures of  dear sweet Baron, our Great Dane mascot…..so stay tuned!

Dolphins performed for us!

We left a shell to commemorate our camp experience!

Isn't this a wonderful gallery of shell memories!?

Besides enjoying all if the wonderful meals and show and tells (which will follow in a separate post) Christy also fed some critters…..the food bowls were emptied but we never did capture a picture of the recipients!

Where is that cute little red fox!? The food is appreciated!

Thanks Christy for letting us stay at TERN OF THE CENTURY…….it was truly perfect!  Christy rents her beach house – so if you are interested in a wonderful place to stay on the beach check out the website!

Thanks for sharing your home with us!

What’s on my Design Floor, February 13, 2012

Posted By on February 13, 2012

I have a couple of things on my Design Floor this week.

First I am working on my 2012 Free Motion Quilting Challenge for February – FEATHERS….

Another Attempt at Feathers

This isn’t wonderful – but it is WAY BETTER than my first attempt which looked a lot like FERN LEAVES!  Not only did they look a lot like FERN LEAVES – they did not look anything like feathers.  I don’t know what possessed me!  🙂

Echo Feathers

One more time….. I think I can I think I can……

Feathers

OK – so I am NOT GIVING UP YET…..after all – it is only February of the 2012 Challenge….but I am beginning to think that I should PAY someone else to do my quilting!

Rolling Along – Judy Laquidara’s January Quilt of Valor Pattern is also on my Design Floor.  I now have all of my blocks made.  My Block #2 (the red center with the black and white fabric) is a slight variation on Judy’s pattern – my blacks go outward from the center block on all four corners……why?  Don’t ask!

Rolling Along

As we speak, I am packing for my annual BEACH QUILT CAMP in North Carolina and I have lots of projects ready to go (I think that I might have delusions of grandeur!)  …….so next Monday I might have  A MULTITUDE  OF THINGS on my Design Floor (one can only hope!)

To see what other quilters are working on, check out Judy Laquidara’s Blog!

SHOW SOME LOVE BLOG HOP STARTS TODAY

Posted By on February 13, 2012

It is almost Valentine’s Day – so if you are looking for some HEART AND VALENTINE crafty inspiration – you will want to hop on over to SEW CAL CAL’s Blog for the SHOW SOME LOVE BLOG HOP…..that is what I am going to do!

http://sewcalgal.blogspot.com/2012/02/go-ahead-and-show-some-love-blog-hop.html

I am not included in this blog hop – but here are a couple of HEART GOODIES that I have made!

This is what I made for my DH…..it is several layers of fabric and batting stuffed with dried rice sprinkled liberally with cinnamon.  Put it into the microwave for 2 minutes and voila……you have a fragrantly warm foot warmer!  The heart is raggedy reversed applique.  🙂  I have no pattern – I just made it up – but it is 12 1/2″ square because that was the size of my square ruler!  🙂  I drew the heart.

A COZY FOOT WARMER

Max and the HEART WARMER

The little white rag mop on the sofa beside my DH is Pepper – our little Llasa.

The only other HEART thing that I have made is a HEART QUILT…..I made this as a shop sample several years ago!

Heart Quilt

Happy Valentine’s Day tomorrow everyone…..and Happy Birthday to my brother, Dan on February 15!  He was ALMOST a Valentine!

Happy Birthday Dan and thank you for the service, Dustin, Coast Guard hero

Do you remember the POT of WHITE CHICKEN CHILI that we ate at the APPLIQUE BEE? NOW….you can make it too!!!!!!!!!

Posted By on February 6, 2012

  • It is hard to forget the big pot of steaming white chicken chili that I took a picture of Sunday at Susan’s house (remember the APPLIQUE BEE for February?)  I have been getting requests for the recipe – and Susan was so nice to share it – so here it is!

    Susan’s WHITE CHICKEN CHILI
    • 1 pkg. McCormick® White Chicken Chili Seasoning Mix
      1 tbsp. oil
1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into ½-inch cubes
      1 cup water
1 can (15 to 16 oz.) white beans, undrained
      1 can whole kernal corn
      sour cream for topping

Instead of following the directions on the package, I cook the chicken and put it all in the crockpot for a few hours. It’s better that way.

Do you also remember the cute little blocks that Susan is putting around the border of her DON’T LOOK NOW APPLIQUE TREE?

Here is information for the pattern…..thanks Susan.  Those little blocks are adorable!

Sue Garman's OMIGOSH Blocks around the tree

    • The pattern is “Omigosh” by Sue Garman. It is available at http://www.quakertownonline.com/omigosh-by-sue-garman.htm

    • By the way – Susan is one of the Swirly Girls who is teaching on the 2013 Cruise that I posted about!  Doesn’t she do great work?
HAPPY EATING AND HAPPY SEWING EVERYONE!
