Yes it is that time of year again – that time when quilters around the world hop in and create one of Bonnie K Hunter’s great Quiltville Mystery  Quilts!  This year it is ON RINGO LAKE.

This year I am making two mysteries – again.  I always make two – one in Christmas colors to gift (because no matter what one’s color scheme is, Christmas colors are good to go for most everyone.)

I am hoping to finish some of my UFOs from prior years – that is my 2016 resolution.  To help in the process I have relegated some of my UFO’s into another category entitled “ABANDONED UNTIL LATER.”  This actually means “PERHAPS ABANDONED FOREVER BECAUSE I HAVE LOST INTEREST!”  In the past I have put these abandoned parts into other quilts or onto the backs of other quilts – I like to recycle!  So here goes my list of things that I actually completed in 2016.

 

#1     STRIPPY HIDDEN STARS  While I was spending some time in the Courtyard Inn in Langhorne, Pennsylvania I finished my first quilt of 2016. It is Strippy Hidden Stars and I made up the pattern – although I have seen many such variations using strings made into half square triangles….so I don’t claim this as a unique design.  The back is made from 2 1/2″ strips – all scrappy because that is what I like!  The quilt measures 60 x 84.  I sent this to my cousin, Rudy Riley, on January 27, 2016, in honor and memory of his wife, Julia, who just died of cervical cancer.  He is going to donate it to the George Ray Cancer Center in Kirksville, MO.

 

 

#2     ALBERTSON LOVE is made from my parents’ clothing and is a Bonnie K. Hunter design – “Basket Weave.”  It is a small lap quilt (55 x 62) and was quilted by Sara Parrish, in Midlothian, VA.  Amy Albertson claimed this for Dustin Albertson’s memory quilt and it will be living in Goose Creek, SC (as long as the Coast Guard has them there.)

#3       Talking Turkey is my first red and white quilt – I love this combination and hope to make more red and white quilts!  This is designed by Bonnie K. Hunter and I actually took a class with her for “Talking Turkey” when Bonnie was in Virginia.

 

#4    Big Sister Fair and Square for my great neice Camryn at the birth of her baby sister Elliott Albertson March 2.  54 1/2 x 69  quilted by Sara Parrish and designed by Bonnie K. Hunter.

 

#5     Little Sister Fair and Square Quilt is a Bonnie K. Hunter design.  This is 40 x 50 1/2 and quilted by Sara Parrish for my great neice Elliott Albertson, born March 2, 2016.

 

 

 

 

 

#6     Albertson Ping Pong Balls was made for my son, Rob Johnson, from the clothing of my parents, J. B. and Marjorie Albertson.  This pattern was inspired by Bonnie K. Hunter’s Cheddar Bowtie Challenge and was quilted by Sara Parrish.  Ping Pong is a family game – a tradition whenever we gather together!  My daddy was a ping pong champion in the Navy.

 

 

 

#7       Andrew’s Albertson Boxy Stars Quilt was a memory quilt made for my nephew Andrew Albertson from clothing belonging to my parents, J.B. and Marjorie Albertson.   This is a Bonnie K. Hunter design (78 x 90) and was quilted by Sara Parrish.

 

#8       Albertson Tumblers  is a memory quilt that I made with my parents’,  JB and Marjorie Albertson, clothing.  I put camel minkee backing on it.  It is 54 1/2 x 70 1/2 and was quilted by Sara Parrish.  It includes 1400 2 1/2 ” tumbler blocks and was inspired by the Bonnie K. Hunter 2015 Tumbler Challenge.  I let my Grandangel Chris use it on her bed until her pet rat, Achilles, ate MULTIPLE HOLES in it.  I repaired it with yo yo’s and put on a new binding (which was almost totally chewed off!)  It is now on MY BED!  🙂

 

 

#9       Joey’s Albertson Lozenges Memory Quilt    was a Bonnie K Hunter Leader Ender Challenge and was quilted by Sara Parrish.  It was a gift to my nephew Joey Albertson and was made from my parents clothing.

 

 #10     Leanna’s King Size Pillow Sham is also made from the Lozenges pattern.   It measures 20 x 36.   While this isn’t a quilt I am including it with my memory creations.  Leanna used it in her University of Mary Washington dorm apartment on her trunk as extra seating.

 

 

11#       Eric’s Albertson Stars Memory Quilt is a quilt that I designed.  It was quilted by Sara Parrish and gifted to my nephew Eric Albertson.  I absolutely LOVE this quilt.  It lives in Kansas City, Missouri.

 

 

#12       K9 For Warriors Quilts.  This year I finished the binding for 4 for service dogs who were assigned to vets who had PTSD.

 

 

#13     Allietare 2015 Quiltville Mystery Quilt was designed by Bonnie K. Hunter and quilted by Sara Parrish.   It measures 83 x 96 and I love this quilt!  It is my first quilt with a scalloped edge.  I may never make another one but I am glad that I made this one!

 

#14   Giraffe’s Log Cabin   is a 35 1/2 x 46 1/2 baby quilt with a flannel giraffe back.  It was made as a donation for the Pregnancy Crisis Center via The Swift Creek Church.  It was quilted by Sara Parrish.

 

 

Other Projects completed in 2016

Not a quilt – but a quilted project was a cute little black cloth box that I made with my Swift Creek Quilter’s Group.

I finished twelve quilts in 2015 bringing my grand total to 162 (since I began quilting in 2007!)

Here are photos of my finished quilts!

 

Quilts Completed in 2015

#1     Lazy Sunday is a quilt pattern designed by Bonnie K. Hunter and was featured in “Quiltmaker” magazine.  Val, at A Needle Runs Through It did the quilting.  I think I did more “UNSEWING” on this quilt than any other in my quilting career so far.  For some reason I kept reading the instructions wrong!  This quilt was gifted to my nephew Eric Albertson and his bride, Susan Albertson, as a wedding present.

 

#2    The Shirts off Their Backs is a basketweave pattern by Bonnie K. Hunter.  This memory quilt is made with fabric from my parents’ clothing and was gifted to my brother, Jim Albertson.  Sara Parrish did the quilting!

 

 

#3     Christmas Mystery 2012 – “Dashing Bachelor.”  This quilt was designed by Dorothy Young and quilted by Sara Parrish.  It was a donation to the Pregnancy Crisis Center through the Swift Creek Baptist Church, December 2017.

#4    Rolling Along is a Judy Laquidara design and was quilted by Sara Parish.  I started it in 2012 and finished it a Quilt Camp in Corolla, NC in 2015.  It hasn’t found a forever home yet.

#5     Celtic Solstice is a Bonnie K Hunter Quiltville Mystery 2013.  It was quilted by A Needle Runs Through It.  I finally finished binding it at Quilt Camp in Corolla, NC February 2015.  This was given to Vincent Johnson for his high school graduation present….2018.

#6     Family is Forever is a memory quilt made from my parents’ clothing.  It is a basketweave design by Bonnie K. Hunter and was finished at Quilt Camp, Corolla, NC, in 2015.  It does not have a forever home.   It was quilted by A Needle Runs Through It. This now has a home with Glenda and Lilo Albertson in Austin, TX.

 

#7     Albertson Christmas Celtic Solstice is a Bonnie K. Hunter Quiltville Mystery, 2014.  The back is made from squares from the fabric of my parents’ clothing (J. B. and Marjorie Albertson.)  My brother, Dan Albertson, chose this as his memory quilt.

 

#8     New Year’s Eve 2011 Mystery Quilt…..this was designed by Ann Smith and quilted by  A Needle Runs Through it.  The back is made from a Bonnie K. Hunter pattern – Boxy Stars.  I hate to say this, but I really don’t like this quilt…..I think that I didn’t pick a good background for the pattern.  Since I categorized this as an UGLY QUILT I decided that I couldn’t give it away….so I kept it and keep it on my Grandma Albertson’s Rocking Chair to keep the chair clean (what was I thinking to have it recovered in cream colored fabric when there are cats in the house!  :))

 

#9     Albertson Chunky Churndash is a Bonnie K Hunter pattern and was made from my parents’ clothing (J.B. and Marjorie Albertson from Kansas City, Missouri.)  Sara Parrish did the quilting.  The back of this quilt also contains fabric that belonged to my sister-in-law’s, Elaine Albertson,  mother.  This quilt was gifted to my brother, Fred Albertson.

 

#10      Albertson Flower Garden Quilt.  This was a memory quilt made from my parents’ clothing and gifted to my niece, Amanda Cook.  Sara Parrish quilted it and I designed it.

 

#11     Christi’s Albertson Chunky Churndash is a memory quilt gifted to my daughter, Jennifer Christine Johnson Epps – aka Christi.  This is a Bonnie K Hunter Design.

 

 

#12  Grand Illusion is a Bonnie K Hunter Quiltville Mystery 2014 and was a wedding gift for my sister-in-love, Chris Van Erp.

I am having lots of fun making Bonnie K Hunter’s 2016 Quiltville Mystery Quilt – En Provence this year.  My second one is being called L’Orange EnProvence (because it has some orange fabric in it.)

I have been making Bonnie’s mysteries since her VERY FIRST ONE – Carolina Crossroads!  I liked it SO MUCH that I made two!

I have continued to make two of Bonnie’s mysteries each year – with the idea that I could give one away and keep one.  As it turns out I love her quilt designs so much that I have ended up gifting most of them – they are that special!  I only want to give away quilts that are SPECIAL!

This year I am making two again – En Provence and L’Orange En Provence…..and here are my first five parts!

In 2007 I finished 17 quilts and I finished 19 quilts in 2008 . In 2009 I must have been completely crazy – it appears I made 34 quilts in 2009.

I slowed down a little and ONLY made 27 in 2010 and in 2011 I also made 27 quilts and many other projects!

In 2012 I made 18 quilts; however  in both 2013  and 2014 I only made 4 quilts each year.  I spent a lot of time in Kansas City with my daddy during his last year and the following year I was just too sad to do much sewing.

 

#1     Something Halloweeny was designed by me (although I think there isn’t anything very creative about a bunch of squares and sashing!)  Karen Murray did the quilting and the back is ORANGE MINKEE – it is 57 x 69.5 and this cozy quilt comes out every year at my house during the fall season!

#2 and #3 are My EASY STREET and CHRISTMAS EASY STREET – 2 of Bonnie K Hunter’s 2012 Quiltville Mysteries.  It measures 108 x 108,  The Christmas Easy Street was quilted by A Needle Runs Through It ($242.91) and the Easy Street was quilted by Karen Murray $216.40.  I thought the two prices for quilting was interesting given that they were the SAME QUILT doubled!  Pictured below is my Christmas Easy Street – the Easy Street Quilt was made in pinks and purples and I HAVE LOST IT!

 

#4     Wonky Trails was another of my original designs with 4 1/2 inch strippy blocks!  My CA daughter, Jan Owens Stark, has this one!  (65.6 x 79.5 quilted by Sara Parrish.)
