I just got back from the Art Festival Exhibit at Clover Hill High School. All of the area elementary, middle and high schools were displaying the wonderful expressions of art from the talented students in the area. I have to say that I was TRULY IMPRESSED.
I wish that I could have taken pictures of everything! I did take a few and I hope that you enjoy them. There are some PORTRAITS that took my breath away – by MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS!
My Grandangel, Leanna, is taking Graphic Arts this year and had two of her projects on display. One is of Kermit the Frog – and she used only words to make the image. The second project is a poster that she made to advertise a Taylor Swift Concert. She LOVES this class. I loved seeing ALL of the projects! Leanna even humored me and let me take a picture of her with her projects!
Congrats to all of the area teachers and students! ENJOY!

Last night there was a lot of fun HAPPENING at the Richmond Modern Quilt Guild in Midlothian, VA. We celebrated our ONE YEAR anniversary by honoring our outgoing president! Catherine got prizes from each of the board members (as well as a lifetime membership to RMQG and a Hobby Lobby gift card – we all know that this is going to produce lots of future creative masterpieces too!)
OUTGOING PRES CATHERINE and INCOMING PRES CHERYL begin the celebratory part of the meeting!
AND THEN THE TEARS OF JOY AND GRATITUDE POURED FORTH…..
It even has a butterfly – probably one of Catherine’s favorite creatures. I cannot believe that I didn’t take a picture of the cupcakes that Catherine brought for the festivities. They were beautiful – decorated with colorful butterflies.
Catherine also got some wonderful potholders in my favorite colors….red and black.
In TYPICAL GENEROUS CATHERINE STYLE Catherine gave luggage tags to anyone renewing their membership or for anyone joining……WELCOME TO THE FUN ALMA!
We always have IMPRESSIVE SHOW AND TELLS and last night was no exception.
The center of this quilt is from our First Round Robin – WOW – this is beautiful!
Thank you to my friend Bonnie for making me a STILETTO……she read my mind…..I was just wishing for one. It is BEAUTIFUl!!!!!
My 8-year-old Grandangel, Cooper, was impressed too and ADMIRED my MINI-SWORD this morning!!!
READ THE NEXT POST TO SEE THE SPRING FLOWERS THAT WE MADE AT OUR APRIL RMQG MEETING!!

For our RMQG One-Year Anniversary Fun we made FLOWERS….and it was REALLY SO MUCH FUN! Like in the TRADITIONAL PRACTICE at Scrapbooking Conventions, I hope that we continue these MAKE AND TAKE Programs at RMQG. It is so much fun to learn new things!
Catherine taught us how to make TWISTY Flowers. A little CIRCLE, a lot of GLUE, and a strip of fabric twisted……and voila. LOVE IT CATHERINE.
THEN the PIPECLEANER FLOWER…….but that is not what it is called! I thought it was called FIDDLESTIX but then I think Laura called it FICKLESTICKS……so to uncloud my brain, I am going to refer to it as the PIPECLEANER FLOWER! Thank you for the lesson, Laura!
My petals need some tweaking…..
I like the long stem version the best!
I put my flowers on my little CAT CHAIR at home. (Catherine made the pretty beige one with the rick rack edge.)
The last FLOWER STATION was the HYDRANGEA STATION – thank you Susan…….this was fun. I didn’t finish but I know HOW to finish it and that is the most important part! RIGHT?
Trish – on the far LEFT was a first time visitor…..welcome Trisha (Trish – Trisha – I hope one of these is correct! :))

I copied this from an article that I GOOGLED. I heard this on the news this morning and have been thinking about it a lot…..is it TRUE? Does anyone know? WOW…..
Well that’s solved then. Chicken born without an egg in Sri Lanka
20th April 2012 by Harrison Weber
According to reports from Metro, a chicken was just recently born — mammal style — without an egg in Sri Lanka. Yes, traditionally eggs are passed out of a hen’s body and incubated outside. Somehow though, in this completely wild instance, the egg stayed inside the hen for 21 days before hatching.
As any rudimentary biology class will tell you, this is not what’s supposed to happen. The hen gave birth to the chick, which survived and is reportedly ”healthy and fully formed,” sadly though, the mother has died of internal wounds.
You can call it a genetic mutation or even an evolutionary process, but no matter what this is quite miraculous to hear. From PR Yapa, a vet in Welimada:
I had only heard about such aberrations, but I was able to see it for myself today. There were lacerations and a tear of the reproductive tract that caused the death. The baby is doing well.
As Metro notes, “the story has hit headlines across Sri Lanka and proved popular on Twitter with many joking that it solves the age old conundrum of which came first – the chicken or the egg.” Strangely enough, this is one of many recent chicken headlines. Earlier this week a hen in Montana apparently laid what may be the world’s smallest egg, being just larger than a penny.
And where in the world is Sri Lanka? According to WIKIPEDIA (which isn’t the best scientific source of information!)
Sri Lanka, officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (i/ʃriː ˈlɑːŋkə/, /sriːˈlɑːŋkə/, or /sriːˈlæŋkə/;[8][9] Sinhala: ශ්රී ලංකාව, Tamil: இலங்கை), is a country off the southern coast of the Indian subcontinent in South Asia. Known until 1972 as Ceylon ( /sɨˈlɒn/, /seɪˈlɒn/, or /siːˈlɒn/), Sri Lanka is an island surrounded by the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Mannar, the Palk Strait, and lies in the vicinity of India and the Maldives.
