On the Knitting Needles, July 6, 2012 SCRAPPY AFGHAN and CAMP LOOPY PROJECT 2 LINE BREAK SHAWL

Posted By on July 6, 2012

I finished my SCRAPPY AFGHAN…..I love it.  It is thick and cozy with several different fibers – it has an interesting texture – all colors are beiges, creams and whites.

Scrappy Afghan COMPLETED

I didn’t measure it – but it is long enough to completely wrap around an adult!

Close up

I also just finished my Project 2 for Camp Loopy – the line break shawl.  I guess it isn’t OFFICIALLY FINISHED because I haven’t blocked it – but it is getting close.

Project 2 Camp Loopy LINE BREAK SHAWL

This is kind of silly – but I took a picture of myself into the mirror – wearing the shawl.  It has a nice light feel to it.

I am happy with how it turned out.  I love the Swans Island Merino in Coral Red from Loopy Ewe!

And now I am waiting for July 13 for the MYSTERY SHAWL KNITALONG to begin!  It isn’t too late to join in on the fun!

Knit Along Mystery Shawl Starts July 13, 2012

It looks like I am signed up for the MYSTERY KNIT-ALONG – a shawl  by Kal2012 at West Knits  If you want to join I included the link at the end of this post!   That pattern is only $4 and you don’t have to buy any special yarn – you can use what is in your stash.

I have never done a mystery knit-along so this should be fun.  THANK YOU JUDY LAQUIDARA FOR LURING ME INTO THIS ADVENTURE!  Now I am just hoping that the pattern will not be too difficult – I am not an expert knitter for sure!

The clues will be given  weekly and should be easy to keep up (FAMOUS LAST WORDS)

July 13

July 20

July 27

and August 3

I am using Madelinetosh – Merino Light Tosh from Eat Sleep Knit (.com online store).  This will be my first time to use two colors.   Actually that is why I signed up because I wanted to learn to use two colors of yarn.

I chose Bark and Hickory as my two colors….

Today is the big day – we cast on for Project Two of Camp Loopy.  I am using Swans Island Yarn from the Loopy Ewe.

Line Break Shawl - my Camp Loopy 2nd Project 2012

Ready to go

Here is a link for the pattern that I got at Ravelry.com for LINE BREAK.

I have not used this yarn before but I love the way it looks and feels!

Instead of being in COLOR CANOES this time  – we are in BUG GROUPS.  Anyone who knows me KNOWS that I am not a big fan of  BUGS.  I think growing up with three brothers may have had something to do with this…….and then maybe I was just born this way!  🙂  ACTUALLY I do kind of like lady bugs so I was hoping that the weight of my yarn would put me in a lady bug group.

Does this LOOK like a ladybug?

Actually I am in the Lightning Bug group and I guess that is the second best bug.  🙂  If I had been a butterfly or moth I might have had to drop out…..lol.  We all have our phobias – some people do not like snakes, some do not like spiders, some do not like to fly or travel over bridges – I do not mind any of these things……go figure.  BUT I can barely stand the sight of a moth or butterfly.    It is quite an UNPOPULAR thing to NOT LIKE – let me tell you!  🙂  I am going to move forward and just pretend that these lightning bugs do not have those big wings!  🙂

I am in the Lightning Bug Group

So much for true confessions….LOL.    I am ready to cast on……have fun at Camp Loopy everyone!

We had a lot of fun at our Jewelry Class taught by Catherine Etter at the Swirly Girls Studio today!  We learned a lot and made headway on our sea-themed necklaces/Christmas ornament. Catherine had prepared kits for us – so we had everything that we needed to make our creation!

Catherine is a skilled and creative artist – and she is also entertaining – that makes for a wonderful day!  I thought I was going to die laughing on several occasions.  Perhaps the most memorable was the material on the book pages that Catherine provided for us.  She suggested that we find a word or phrase from the page to put on the back of our finished piece.  Well – little did Catherine know, but these pages contained some pretty “INTERESTING WORDS”  – – let’s just say that “inspirational” might NOT have been the best adjective.  Hey, forget  SHADES OF GRAY – I think some of us might be looking for this book with the missing pages!!  lol

Of course I took a few pictures to commemorate the day – I hope you enjoy the fun vicariously!  Thanks for the class, Catherine – and for threading my needle multiple times!!!!  🙂

I love making scrappy quilts – so much so that they are my FAVORITE KIND OF QUILT.   So I decided that maybe I should make some SCRAPPY KNITTED AFGHANS to see if I liked them as well.  So I pulled together some of my beige, off white, white, and other similar shades of NEUTRAL and started on my merry way.  I am using STASH – three yarns at a time on size 14 needles.  Every 6 rows I add in some fun fur…..and I am also using some loopy yarn, eyelash and sashay yarns for texture.  It doesn’t look so good in this picture – but it is so thick and cozy in person.  It will keep me entertained until it is time for my Camp Loopy Project 2 to start June 27!
