Day 1 of the Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Retreat – OFFSITE at Erika’s – Williamsburg, 2012

Posted By on September 24, 2012

I took a few pictures of my STUFF PACKED….it always intrigues me to see how much STUFF that I think that I need for only a few days of sewing!  SO, to amuse myself, I do take pictures of my bags packed.   Does anyone else do that!  I also took pictures of the glorious drive after we got to Williamsburg!  IDYLLIC!!!

Some of us were EARLY EAGER BEAVERS and elected to take advantage of having an extra day added to the retreat.  This was an option for everyone – however – only a few were able – or chose to do this.   A few of us did jump right in and started on Wednesday.  Here are some pictures of Erika, Catherine, and SAO enjoying DAY ONE at Erika’s House!    After we RECOVERED from the wonder of the area of Williamsburg where Erika lives – we began to create wondrous works of art!

We had so much fun creating and embellishing and embellishing some more!  Catherine brought projects to paint, stamp, cut, glue, and generally have fun with!

Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild Retreat – SHOW AND TELL – 2012

Posted By on September 24, 2012

One of the things that I enjoy the most about attending the Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Retreat is the sharing, caring, teaching and learning that goes on.  There was a lot of that at our recent Williamsburg Retreat.

Here are some of the pictures from our SHOW AND TELL night.

Some of the pictures are a bit blurry – because some quilters were in a hurry.

And yes, I did intend to rhyme that time…..but sorry I can’t create a limerick on the spot – but don’t hesitate to ask Catherine to do this for you because I guarantee you that SHE CAN DO THIS!!!)

Now – do you feel like you have been on the retreat with us?  Since I can’t remember any of Catherine’s limericks to share – here is one from me.

OK – so, to be truthful,  I borrowed a famous limerick and made a slight modification……..here goes.  Just for the record, I tried!

1.
There once was a quilter from Williamsburg – yes it is you(A) da DUM da da DUM da da DUM (3 DUMS)
2.
who dreamed she was eating her shoe.(A) da DUM da da DUM da da DUM (3 DUMS)
3.
She awoke in the night(B) da DUM da da DUM (2 DUMS)
4.
with a terrible fright,(B) da da DUM da da DUM (2 DUMS)
5.
and found out that it was quite true.(A) da DUM da da DUM da da DUM (3 DUMS)

“A limerick is a kind of a witty, humorous, or nonsense poem”  …………  can you come up with more limericks to represent quilt retreat fun?

Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild Retreat – Williamsburg, VA 2012

We really had lots of fun…..5 wonderful days of sewing, laughing, learning new Latin words, hearing limericks, eating, singing (yes singing), sharing the names of our sewing machines, snacking, and creating.  And that is just what went on on the first floor – but I am sure the second floor quilters have lots of great memories too.  DOES THAT SOUND LIKE FUN OR WHAT!

Here are some pictures of RANDOM HAPPENINGS – what I call process pictures.  (If you are new to my blog, please double click on the pictures to see the entire thing!)

Colonial Peacemaker’s Retreat 2012 – Clowns and Babies

Posted By on September 24, 2012

I have titled this post CLOWNS and BABIES.    Why?  Because we enjoyed BOTH at our annual Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Retreat in Williamsburg, VA. this weekend.  Everyone loves a clown,  and who doesn’t love a little person,  so I just had to share some of the pictures of select members of the guild in some of our CLOWN MOMENTS.

We had two adorable little people pop in for a visit during our retreat.   Who thinks PRINCE HARRY looks exactly like Lorraine?  Thanks, Kathy, for sharing your little princess too!  The babies, AND THE MOMS TOO, are adorable!

 THE LITTLE BABES

Lorraine’s very own Prince Harry!

Thanks, Kathy, for sharing your little princess!

THE QUILTING BABES CLOWNING AROUND

Can you hear the giggles?  And just for the record – there was no alcohol involved….just natural creative, silly fun.   Maybe I should withhold names to protect the innocent?  LOL

Can you just hear the giggles?    Quilters keep each other in stitches for sure!   Thanks Catherine, Erika, and Lorraine – oops – I wasn’t going to mention names!  Oh well, these creative souls deserve recognition for adding to the fun at the retreat!    LOL

Some SPECIAL PROJECTS at the Colonial Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild 2012

Posted By on September 24, 2012

I decided to give a SPECIAL place to some SPECIAL PROJECTS.  First, Catherine challenged us and taught us to make receptacles out of jean legs.  That was EVER SO MUCH FUN.  I call them JEAN TUBS but I don’t think they are REALLY CALLED THAT.  You can make them large or small, short and round – or tall and skinny (depending on the size of the jeans and how much LEG you use!)     ……..too much fun!  LOOK AT OUR CREATIONS!

You can even use jeans that are RIPPED!

Catherine made the one with BROWN PLAID FLANNEL TRIM IN THE FOREGROUND OF THIS PICTURE!

Add some specialty fabric and you have a messenger bag with the TOP of the jeans!  This became EMBELLISHED into a masterpiece!

Barbara’s Jean Tub

Erika made THREE JEANS BAGS!

Bonnie taught us to make the CUTEST EVER MINI DESIGN BOARDS….covered with batting and trimmed with quilt binding -adhered with a hot glue gun.  That was fun….I hadn’t used my glue gun in YEARS!

Catherine is making the BACK of hers into a memo board!

Catherine used decorative black and white DUCT TAPE instead of a glue gun!

Catherine and sao are using their DESIGN BOARDS!!! Thanks Bonnie for this fabulous project!

Finally, Sherry will be happy to know that some of us worked on our CHILDHOOD MEMORY CHALLENGE QUILTS!  I didn’t get a GOOD PICTURE of Erika’s but it is ADORABLE…..made from childhood dresses.

Here is Cathy’s denoting BUBBLES AND PINWHEELS….don’t we all have fond memories of this kind of fun!

sao worked on hers – GRANDMA REITER’S COLORADO HAPPY HIPPOS……FIVE GENERATIONS ago, Grandma Reiter cut these hippos out for Shirley to make a quilt with for her first born child (who is now 45 years old this year!)

Thanks, Catherine, for putting the eyelashes on the hippos and for drawing the little birds!

Finally – inspired and helped by Catherine – I worked on my Michael Miller Circle Challenge Quilt (a Richmond Modern Quilt Guild event brought to us by Catherine!)
