Old Virginia Road

I finished the top of my Old Virginia Road Quilt tonight – wow – it is pretty big – WOULD YOU BELIEVE 88 x 112? I promised myself that I would not make any more LARGE QUILTS….but, somehow I didn’t listen to myself!! 🙂 I am going to put 15 inch scrappy blocks together for the back. (I LOVE DOING THE BACKS THIS WAY!)
I must admit that I REALLY LIKE this quilt. I think it is my favorite of all of Bonnie K. Hunter’s quilts. I almost didn’t put the border of flying geese on (making flying geese for two quilts – who would make that many flying geese?) – but in the end I did it and now I am so glad. ONE HUNDRED AND TWELVE FLYING GEESE ARE FLYING AROUND THE BORDER OF THIS QUILT.
Since I am ALWAYS LOST I decided it would be fun to reflect my personality in the border. So instead of having the geese all flying in the same direction around the quilt, I had the geese on the top and on the bottom flying in opposite directions – and the geese on each side are flying either up or down.
I made another one almost like this only instead of the pinwheel blocks being cream and green I made them cream and black/brown – that is how much I LOVE THIS QUILT. When I was making the flying geese blocks, I made 200 because I estimated that I would need 100 for each quilt – but I used 112 on the first one….so it looks like I need to make 12 more before I can finish the other one.
I just have to add one more close up shot….I am actually mesmerized by this quilt. THANKS, Bonnie, for the pattern – love it!
It looks great! I didn’t do this one, but I really like the looks of it too! Bonnie is so talented!
Your quilt is beautiful! I didn’t do this one but, if I could pick colors like you I would try it.
