What’s on my Design Wall August 15, 2011

I am in CA visiting family – such fun – so my DESIGN WALL for this week isn’t in VA – it is in CA. Since my DESIGN WALL is VIRTUAL (in my suitcase) I am knitting instead of quilting! LOL. August 15 we start our ASSIGNMENT #3 from CAMP LOOPY (see the LOOPY EWE blog if you are interested!) I failed the second assignment which was to knit a pair of socks using a cable pattern. Since I haven’t finished a pair of socks with PLAIN KNITTING, I didn’t accomplish this one (but I did pick out a pattern!) Assignment #3 is to knit something that uses 800 yards of yarn…….so stay tuned for pictures!
While I was THINKING about knitting cable socks I knitted an afghan. I made up my own rules. It is knitted with 5 skeins of yarn at once and has WAY OVER 1,000 yards……TA DA….it is finished. I really like it – it is SO SOFT. This was made in the wee hours of the morning when I should have been sleeping! LOL
Before we flew to CA last week two of my grandangels, Collin and Jannae, helped me make bean bags. Actually we stuffed them with rice – so theoretically they are RICE BAGS! Collin told me that he could not quilt or even cut a straight line. He assured me that this was true and a recent teacher said that if he went back to kindergarten he wouldn’t pass. So at age 15 this grandangel amazed himself by CUTTING A STRAIGHT LINE and by QUILTING A STRAIGHT LINE! I knew he could do it (but I did say a little silent prayer as he used that rotary cutter!!)
Grandangel Jannae, who is only 7, not only cut a straight line with my rotary cutter, but she also quilted up a storm!
OK – so that’s not all – I have other quilty news. Grandangel Caden got his high school graduation quilt……..since his favorite team is the Green Bay Packers, I made it in green bay colors (SUMMER JEWELS PATTERN) and Karen Murray quilted it with FOOTBALLS and other FOOTBALL EXPRESSIONS (like #1 and GO!) Thereoretically he doesn’t graduate until the spring of 2012 – but I wanted to give it to him while I was with him.
Grandangel Lacy graduated from Berkeley this past spring so she got Augusta Cole’s Design – CONFETTI QUILT! The really neat thing is that I made this quilt for her – but then at the last minute I gave her a choice of this one or two others. I NEVER TOLD HER that this was the one that I made for her. SHE PICKED THIS ONE WITHOUT HESITATION. That makes me so happy!
If you want to see want is on the design wall of quilters around the country – go to Judy Laquidara’s blog at www.patchworktimes.com – she posts this EVERY MONDAY!
Happy sewing everyone!
Are you home yet? Looks like you are having a fantastic time in California – Love your shawl knitting project. Just perfect. Judy C in NC
Very pretty quilts indeed and they will be treasured for years I am sure.
