Happy June – FLIP A COIN DAY

Posted By on June 1, 2011

Did you KNOW that June 1st is FLIP A COIN DAY?  I never knew that until my “COMPUTER TOLD ME.”

In fact, we probably never knew half  of what we know now before computers were in common use!  Whatever did we do when we needed to look up a word – or figure out in what order all of the As and Es go when spelling caesarean section!?  Oh yes, the dictionary!

Yes, June 1st is FLIP A COIN DAY.  I wonder who started this.  These days someone CALLS the winner….whether it be Heads or Tails.  ORIGINALLY Julius Caesar used this method to make decisions (or so the rumor goes!)   Since HIS HEAD was on one side of the Roman coin – HEADS WAS ALWAYS THE WINNER!

AND ANOTHER THING….while “WE” are on the subject of Julius Caesar……it is rumored that he was born via caesarean section 100/102 BC.

HOWEVER, according to an internet source,

Bindusara (Born c. 320 BC, ruled: 298 – c.272 BC) , the second Mauryan emperor of India after Chandragupta Maurya the Great, is said to be first child born by surgery. His mother, wife of Chandragupta Maurya, accidentally consumed poison and died when she was close to delivering him. Chanakya, the Chandragupta’s teacher and advisor, made up his mind that the baby should survive. He cut open the belly of the queen and took out the baby, thus saving the baby’s life.

HISTORY LESSON OVER – but if you get a chance, flip a coin today – don’t we all love to celebrate a holiday!????
