Grandma’s Day Out with Sarah Oct. 24, 2010

Today was the day that Grandangel Sarah and I celebrated her 11th birthday with a day – just for us. We started out with BREAKFAST IN BED (Cooper joined the party!)
Here we are – ready for our adventures……. Sarah got to choose where we went and what we did!
We started with a cruise around TOYS R US – where we found a very cute LEGO treat!
Then we were off for SWEET FROG. I almost dreamed about this yogurt – just anticipating the creamy tart frozen yogurt with fresh fruit and nuts. On the way, Sarah and I even PLANNED what kind of frozen yogurt that we would smother with our favorite toppings…..only to find out that SWEET FROG was not open.
NOT OPEN!!!!
We ate at JOHNNY ROCKETS INSTEAD! I was so bummed at missing my frozen yogurt that I ordered a DREAMSICLE MILKSHAKE (I never order a milkshake!!!!) Sarah ordered a strawberry banana one – and when the milkshakes came she tasted mine – and the rest is history (I GOT THE STRAWBERRY BANANA ONE!) 🙂 It was fun – I just pretended that we were at Johnny Rockets in Laguna Beach, CA and it was almost like being “HOME IN CA” again.
NEXT STOP – the MOVIES…..to see SECRETARIAT!
Were any of you around when SECRETARIAT (aka BIG RED) won the TRIPLE CROWN in 1973? Well, Secretariat was a Virginia racehorse and the movie SCRETARIAT is all about the Denver “housewife,” Penny Chenery, who inherited Secretariat, believed in him, and fought valiantly in a male-dominated world to spur her horse to victory. It was so exciting. How did they do that to me! It wasn’t like I was really in suspense (BIG RED won that TRIPLE CROWN 37 years ago!!!)
I found a couple of pictures on the internet – isn’t this a great picture of a horse who just LOVED TO WIN!
The movie was awesome – I cried so much all through it – and I even knew how it was going to end. The drama, the acting, the music – it was just all a wonderful experience and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!! Just seeing the French Canadian trainer’s clothing and plaid hats is worth the price of admission!
And just for the record – Secretariat is STILL known as the best racehorse ever! And when that DVD comes out I want to buy it so I can watch it again and again!
Sarah and I had a great Grandma’s Day Out!!!!
