2020 SAO Quilts and Projects
Posted By drsao on August 5, 2021
I love to keep a record of all of my quilts and projects. I love making lists. I love being busy. Maybe it is because at the end of each day my daddy (James Blaine Albertson Jr) asked me what I had accomplished and what I had learned. So I developed the habit of having a dialogue ready! I also have self-diagnosed as having ADHD because I just can’t seem to sit still without doing something – for example – when I watch TV I need to sew, knit, or crochet!
So here goes my list for 2020!
Quilts Finished in 2020
1 Checkerboard Rail Fence Quilt. This was a Bonnie K Hunter Leader Ender 2017 Challenge. I put a red plush blanket on the back and gifted it to my grandangel Chris for High School Graduation. It was quilted by Sara Parrish and measures 67 1/2 x 78 1/2.
2 Scrappy Grandmother’s Flower Garden. This quilt took me 10 years to complete. Yes. I started making the hexies when I was visiting my parents when they were mostly housebound. We rented lots of movies! If it weren’t for a Transformation Quilt Group Challenge it might still be in pieces. I designed this quilt and unfortunately I can’t seem to like it. It measures 80 x 102, has a black back, and was quilted by Joyce Bailey. I promised it to my Grandangel Harry Johnson for his first musical album cover.
3 Albert the Elephant Quilt. This is 33 x 34 and has a red flannel back. It was designed by me and created for Collin Cleo Albertson born March 10, 2020 (8 lbs 9 oz.) Sara Parrish did the quilting.
4 Good Fortune II Quilt. This is a 2018 Quiltville Mystery designed by Bonnie K Hunter and quilted by Sara Parrish. $150. It has a luscious purple plush back and I have to thank Karen Carvin for hand sewing the binding down! This was Grandangel James Johnson’s High School graduation gift.
5 Wonky Diamonds I Spy Quilt. I designed this quilt and Joyce Bailey quilted it. 56 1/2 x 80 $80. I donated this to the Transformation Church program for single pregnant moms.
6 Let it Snow Quilt (Red Truck Panel). Sara Parrish quilted this for me $60, 41 1/2 x 60 1/2. I did the piecing. I just love RED TRUCK anythings!
7 Larry Lion Quilt. This quilt has a story. I saw a photo of a Lion Quilt in a magazine and I laid out 2 inch squares on my floor (design wall wannabe) until I had what I thought was a lion. 47 x 60 quilted by Sara Parrish. This was given to my daughter, Jennifer Christine Johnson Epps (a belated baby quilt.) As a child she always complained that her brother had a baby quilt and she didn’t. So better late than never! When Christi was small, she couldn’t pronounce her Ls so I had my Grandangel Chris embroider the poem that I used as speech therapy for little Christi on the back of the quilt. This may be my proudest accomplishment.
8 Red and White Hunter Star Quilt. This was designed by Bonnie K Hunter and I remember scrambling to get this pattern. I LOVE IT and my favorite color is red! 81 x 96 Quilted by Sara Parrish and completed at a Transformation Quilters Retreat 7/11/20. This was one of my Transformation Quilters UFO Challenge quilts. It is amazing what a person will do for a star on a chart!
9 Unity Mystery Quilt 2020. Bonnie K Hunter designed this quilt to keep us occupied during the Covid-19 flu pandemic isolation period. 74 x 82 $155.00 quilted by Sara Parrish and completed at a Transformation Quilters Retreat. I chose the colors because they were the colors of Mary Williams Elementary School in Prince William County, Virginia. This is where Grandangel Leanna Epps got her first teaching job – 4th grade which she started as a virtual learning experience (pandemic social distancing) and ended as a traditional in classroom experience. This was a gift for Leanna’s Master’s Degree Graduation and as a celebration of her first teaching job.
